BlindShell is a talking touchscreen phone especially designed for blind and partially sighted people. Use touch or voice commands to carry out simple tasks like calling, messaging and managing contacts, or to use the phone's extra features.
Use BlindShell to listen to internet or FM radio, download audio books from LibriVox, dictate emails/texts, make a voice note or get books from BookShare. You can also browse the web and use both Facebook and WhatsApp thanks to Talkback, the phone's screen reader.
This phone is fully talking – including talking menus and reading emails and texts – and supports dictation and voice commands. BlindShell can also recognise text and read it out loud, and also has a song recognition feature when connected to the internet.
Voice Assistance lets you control the phone using voice commands, instead of touch gestures. Open any app on the phone simply by saying its name or tell the phone to "open messages", "call John Smith" or "send a message to 0303 123 9999". Use Voice Assistance to set alarms or timers, for example, "count down five minutes and 30 seconds", "create an alarm for 6am"; use the calculator ("what is 200 divided by 18?"); create calendar events or notes and check the battery status of the phone, weather, location and more.
Important note - WiFi or 3G/4G mobile data is required in order to use voice control on the phone.
Learning to use BlindShell
This phone can be operated by either four simple touch gestures, with feedback provided via the built-in synthetic voice, vibration and additional acoustic signals; or via the voice assistance feature.
All RNIB customers will receive a free one-hour training session with our Technology Team. (The phone must have been bought from RNIB.) Important note: This training is highly recommended before you start to use your BlindShell handset.
The phone also includes an interactive tutorial, which starts automatically when you first use the device. This must be completed before you can use the phone. You can go back to the tutorial at any time. BlindShell also comes with a built-in manual, which you will find in the main menu.

Most of our products and some publications in large print (16 point and above) can be sent by freepost under the 'Articles for the Blind' scheme.
However, the Articles for the Blind scheme offers no guarantees of delivery or insurance for valuable items. We do, therefore, have to make delivery charges for some high value products which need to be sent by a special delivery method. Where a product incurs a delivery charge this is highlighted in the product details and will be added to your order at checkout.
When we send your products, the package will include a 'dispatch note' with details of the contents. It is really important to check this against the actual contents of the package and alert us immediately (within 7 working days) of receiving the order about any discrepancies.

We kindly ask our customers to ensure that any faulty products being returned are packaged securely for stable transit, or the warranty may be voided.
