There is a weekend party at "The Hollow". To it come a doctor, a sculptress, a dress shop girl, an undergraduate and the owner of "Ainswick", a country house which means a lot to them all. For one of the guests there is no return journey: murder takes place, and Poirot is on hand, experimenting with having a country cottage.
