IPA Braille is a braille code for transcribing the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) – this publication is aimed at educational professionals and students of linguistics, as well as anyone with an interest in learning different braille codes.

IPA Braille presents an up-to-date braille notation for the symbols of the International Phonetic Alphabet, primarily aimed at braille-reading students and professionals in the language sciences, as well as braille transcribers wishing to produce braille versions of linguistics texts.

Although IPA Braille is not part of UEB and employs a different prefix-root symbol pattern, it can be used in conjunction with UEB and other codes, and is recommended for the transcription of IPA inclusions within non-IPA text.

The publication is available in print (one A4 document) and braille (two documents which can be purchased separately or as a pack – the complete IPA braille code transcribed in UEB, the IPA print glyphs as tactile graphics, with a braille introduction, and the complete pack with both the braille IPA code transcribed in UEB, and tactile supplement with braille introduction).

The publication uses Dr Robert Englebretson’s updated version of the 1934 braille code for IPA and is based on the 2005 revision of the IPA.
