This 40-cell braille display offers onboard forward and backward braille translation as well as easy book reading and note-taking at an affordable price.

This durable, portable device has signage-quality braille and can be used as a stand-alone braille display or connected to a computer or mobile device.

Switch quickly and easily between three modes: book-reader (read books and files from an SD card or USB stick); note-taker (take notes and edit files); and braille display (connect to five computers or mobile devices via USB or Bluetooth).

The Orbit Reader 40 from RNIB comes with pre-installed content on an SD card, including more than 2,000 books and a searchable Oxford English Dictionary.  

Use Bluetooth to connect to your Apple, Android or Kindle device and access a world of books through reading apps such as Kindle®, Adobe Digital Editions® or iBooks®.

The Orbit Reader 40 works with all popular screen readers on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, Fire OS, Chrome OS and Linux, allowing you to read and send messages and emails; browse the internet and social media; and control your smartphone or computer.

It has onboard forward and backward braille translation with support for 40+ languages, as well as onboard apps for a clock and alarm, calendar, and calculator.

The Orbit Reader 40 has a solid, durable construction that is resistant to fluids and dust, but it is also compact, lightweight and portable. It has a USB C port for charging and connectivity; the long-life battery is designed for fast charging.

The Orbit Reader 40 will arrive with a Quick Start Guide in braille (Grade 2) and a Quick Start Guide in print, the full instructions will also be on the SD card which will be in the machine. A padded carry case is for the Orbit Reader 40 (HA006) will be available from the end of July (2021).

Returns and warranty

  • 12-month warranty.
  • If your Orbit Reader 40 is faulty within the first 12 months we’ll replace with a new unit from stock; we must receive your faulty unit back first. Please keep your SD card.
