Key features
Turn speech on and off as needed. You control the volume, speed, and verbosity of the information you hear.
Human-sounding voices: Dolphin ScreenReader offers a wide range of human-sounding synthetic voices, in a wide range of accents and languages.
Speaks as you type: For accuracy, you can listen to words and characters as you type them and choose to hear extra information such as new lines and spaces if required.
Read content: With reliable access to Microsoft 365, you can read all manner of digital content, in ways which are accessible to you. This includes Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, emails, and websites.
Quick navigation: Move immediately to a heading, link, paragraph, form field, button and more with Quick Navigation Keys or Item Finder lists. You can also add place markers on your favourite web pages, and skip straight to them on your next visit.
Scan & Read: Connect a scanner and you can read print. Simply scan any printed information – letters, magazine articles, labels, prescriptions, appointment cards, etc – and Dolphin ScreenReader turns the printed words into speech. You can also convert paper documents into Microsoft Word or export text to Google Drive.
This helps you maintain your independence and privacy – you don’t need to rely on anyone else to read letters for you.
Split speech and other audio: Hear the Dolphin ScreenReader speech in one ear, while you listen to a video call, music or phone call through the other. Or choose to decrease the volume of the computer audio while your ScreenReader voice is speaking.
Control reading: ‘Read from here’ mode uses your cursor position to highlight each word on screen as it’s read by the speech. You can choose how fast or slow the words on screen are read back to you and select whether you would like it to announce punctuation and capital letters. You can also pause and continue reading and skip to the next sentence or paragraph.
Monitor markers: You can enable the Dolphin ScreenReader speech to announce changes on the screen, including security notifications, file downloads and instant messages.
Announcements and verbosity: Choose how much information the screen reader announces, (in speech or braille) from minimum to high verbosity. With advanced text style announcements include links, blank lines, spelling errors, capital letters, and formats including font, size, colour, underlined, bold, etc.
Advanced Speak keys: Options to announce characters, word, lines, paragraph, tables and more. You can also use Speak keys to spell and read letters phonetically.
Braille output: Connect your braille display to type, read and explore the screen. Dolphin ScreenReader works with over 60 electronic braille display models. It supports over 50 literary and computer braille translation tables, including Unified English Braille.
Physical braille mode: Shows the physical layout of the screen through your braille display. This is helpful to understand the layout of web pages and tables.
Braille input: Use input keys on your braille display to type emails and documents or complete forms. You can use the routing keys to position the cursor and select links, or use your braille display to control the Dolphin Cursor and explore the screen entirely with a braille display.
Free EasyReader Premium: Dolphin ScreenReader includes Dolphin EasyReader App for Windows. Use EasyReader to browse, borrow and read books from accessible book libraries, including RNIB Bookshare, RNIB Library and RNIB Newsagent. You can also import and read documents.
Free training: Learn more about how to use Dolphin ScreenReader software, with free training courses at the Dolphin Learning Zone.
