Played on a four-by-four board, by blindfolded players, the aim is to be the first player to create a line of four identically shaped pieces, or a line of four pieces at the same height, or a line of three pieces in perfectly stepped height (from level 1 to level 3).
In this version of four-in-a-row, you play with three different types of wooden counter: eight solid counters, eight counters with a hole, and eight double counters (twice the height of the other counters, with one solid face and one holed face).
Blindfolded players take turns to place their counters, trying to construct a line of four solid or holed counters; a line of four counters at the same height; or a line of three counters that rise from a single counter to a three-level counter (three singles or a double plus a single).
