Fickle British weather allowing, barbecue season is nearly here. Here are our top five product recommendations for barbecuing with a visual impairment.

1. Gauntlets

Protect your wrists and forearms with a pair of five-fingered, heat-resistant oven gloves. These give you much more flexibility and grip than oven mittens, allowing you to turn your sausages and halloumi kebabs more easily while protecting you from accidental burns on hands and wrists.

2. Talking food thermometer

Nobody wants their chicken drumsticks undercooked – this talking food thermometer gives you peace of mind that the centre of your food is as hot as it should be. Simply stick the metal probe into your food and press the button to hear the temperature.

3. Plate surrounds

Plate surrounds are not only helpful when dining at a table (they make it easier to get food on to cutlery), they can be deployed for eating on your feet (or in a garden chair). Make it harder for your lunch to escape by clipping one to your plate.

4. Non-slip mat

Make your prep easier by placing a non-slip mat underneath your chopping board. It can also go under a mixing bowl if you’re making a delicious marinade for your barbecue items, and reduce slippage. The bright red mat can also provide excellent contrast to make it easier to see the chopping board on a work surface.

5. Talking scale with easy-to-see jug

And talking of marinades, our talking kitchen scale with easy-to-see jug measures wet and dry ingredients and announces them clearly, making cooking easier.
