We’re delighted to announce blind content creator, disability activist, award-winning presenter, journalist and author Lucy Edwards as RNIB’s latest ambassador.
Lucy Edwards lost her sight at 17 years old due to Incontinentia Pigmenti (IP); a genetic eye condition. Lucy became committed to sharing her experience of living with sight loss online and has organically built a social media following of over 2.8 million. She continues to share her story and campaign for change on her @LucyEdwards pages across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and X.
Over the years, Lucy has supported RNIB’s mission in campaigning for a more inclusive world for people with sight loss and to raise awareness of the challenges blind and partially sighted people face every day.
Lucy said: "When I was a little girl losing my eyesight, I didn’t see anyone that looked like me on TV or social media, so I was scared to live my most authentic life. Every day I wake up and think of all the little Lucy’s that are going blind every day and through my work, I keep them in my heart. Making a more inclusive world for them is what drives me forward and I know that RNIB has the same goals as me.
“We don’t have to live in a sighted world anymore that isn’t made for blind people. I’m so excited to be an RNIB ambassador because I want to show that you don’t just have to survive, you can thrive as a blind person. I can’t wait to make a difference together."
In collaboration with best-selling children’s author Katy Birchall, Lucy has now released Ella Jones vs the Sun Stealer (published by Scholastic); an empowering story that celebrates the strength and resilience of young people to highlight that disabilities are no barrier to greatness. The story follows 12-year-old Ella, who has sight loss, embark on an adventure with the help of her guide dog Maisie, her sister Poppy and her best friend Finn.
