Everything came up (metaphorical) roses for the RNIB Legacy Garden at RHS Wentworth last week (16-20 July), which was awarded three top prizes by the RHS: Best Show Garden, Gold Medal for a Show Garden and Best Construction for a Show Garden.

The Legacy Garden, which was made possible by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, was received very positively. Specially designed to provide a rich sensory and immersive experience accessible to all, it featured a pair of sight pods, where visitors could experience the garden through the eyes of someone living with diabetic retinopathy or retinitis pigmentosa. It also encouraged important conversations around the vital work that RNIB do, thanks to gifts left in wills.

The RNIB Legacy Garden was a deeply tactile space that used texture, form, colour and sounds to create an immersive experience, with plants chosen for scent and contrast, with colours selected to provide optimum contrast for people with sight loss.

Take an audio tour of the garden in this nine-minute interview on RNIB Connect Radio, with garden designer Paul Hervey-Brookes and Toby Davey.
