This lightweight, handheld device uses a smart camera and AI technology to instantly read out text from any printed surface or digital screen.

Designed for people with mild low vision, reading fatigue, reading difficulties including dyslexia, and anyone who consumes large amounts of text, this highly sophisticated device is simple to use – just point the Orcam Read Smart towards the text and press a button.

It will instantly read printed or digital text from books, newspapers, smartphone screens, computers, and more. using laser targeting and its 13 megapixel sensor. In dimly lit environments, an LED light gives the right amount of illumination to make reading possible. The Orcam Read Smart will read documents in any orientation – even upside down or sideways.

It can also detect bank notes and recognise barcodes (please note, it can not read some barcodes).

You can listen via the mini speaker on the device or through headphones (wired or Bluetooth), or a Bluetooth speaker.

Orcam Read Smart is the most efficient smart pen on the market – it is designed for all ages and does not require an internet connection. In addition to offering Speed Reading, it is the only smart pen that has Full Page Capture. It has four large, tactile buttons, making it easy to use.

This product comes with 90 minutes' free training (which will be delivered online). You will be contacted by Optelec within a week of purchase to arrange training.

Important - order cancellations and returns

We are unable to cancel your order once it has been placed. Should you change your mind about this special order product, you will need to accept the delivery and then contact RNIB Helpline to arrange its return; guidance on how to do this can be found in our Returns Policy.

This product is returnable as unsuitable within 30 days of receipt in an “as new” condition in original, undamaged packaging.

We kindly ask our customers to ensure that any faulty products being returned are packaged securely for stable transit, or the warranty may be voided. Where possible, please use the original packaging.

• For optimal text reading, ensure that the camera lens is directly facing the text, and the lens is clean. The camera can only read text in its field of view.
