Party season is upon us and if you want to wow the crowds, we have tips to get you out of the door, looking fab-u-lous!

PENfriend laundry labels can be stuck on to the care labels in your clothes and have loads of information added to them – you can describe the item (V-neck little black dress, sage-green button-down shirt, copper tie), add care instructions, but also remind yourself what goes well with it (dragonfly necklace, dark green waistcoat, dark blue shirt), or even what should be avoided at all costs!

Another solution to putting together a co-ordinated wardrobe is to use a colour detector, which will announce the colour of an item for you. If you have a BlindShell mobile phone you can use the built-in colour detector (Classic 2) or Observo (Classic 3) to check your outfit.

Everybody likes a second opinion on their look, even if they have 20:20 vision – if you can’t get hold of a sighted friend or family member to give a twirl to, apps like Seeing AI and Be My Eyes will be able to tell you if your skirt is tucked in your knickers, or your Christmas jumper is on back-to-front.

You can also add ordinary PENfriend labels to make-up to ensure you’re using your winter foundation rather than your summer one, and making it easier to find your preferred eye shadow.

RNIB has loads of tips on applying make-up if you are blind or partially sighted, which we recommend checking out.

Magnifying mirrors are helpful, even if you don’t wear make-up – they can be a boon when putting in contact lenses, taming unruly eyebrows, or styling hair. Many include an illuminated frame which can also be helpful. If you have the right mirror, but not enough light, check out a portable light that can be used wherever you need good lighting.

Finally, cane users can co-ordinate their cane with their outfit. For a really big event, like a wedding or a Significant birthday, you could order a custom cane with handle, tip and shaft in the colours of your choice (call our Helpline on 0303 123 9999 to order a bespoke cane). If you don’t want to wait a few weeks to add a splash of colour to your cane, you can just order a coloured tip today. Awarewolf’s new dome tips (a hook-style tip designed for the Urban Xplorer cane, but suitable for other mobility canes), are available in red, orange, yellow, pink, blue, and white.
