More than 450,000 people in the UK are affected by deafblindness, a combined sight and hearing impairment. Although it can mean someone has no sight and no hearing, deafblindness affects everyone differently and not everyone experiences it in this way.

You can learn more about deafblindness from Deafblind UK, and more about products that can support a person with deafblindness right here…

Symbol cane

This red and white symbol cane is designed to let people know that you are deafblind. Made from lightweight aluminium tubing, it folds up so you can easily pack it away when not in use. (Symbol canes are not mobility aids, their function is to draw the attention of the public to the fact that the user has a degree of sight and hearing loss.)

Long canes and guide canes

You can use our bespoke cane ordering service to order a red and white long cane or guide cane, again letting people around you know that you have dual sensory loss.

Children’s cane

Our deafblind children’s cane is available in six lengths (from 60cm to 85cm) and folds into three sections when not in use. It is supplied with a standard 15cm child’s handle and a roller marshmallow tip.

Loud flashing doorbell with vibrating pager

This doorbell system is easy to install and combines a mains-powered chime unit; portable, vibrating pager; and water-resistant bell push to make you aware of the doorbell via vibration, amplified sound and a flashing light, and is ideal for anyone with sight and/or hearing loss.

The components are pre-paired and there’s no wiring. Simply use the supplied 3M padded sticker (or the wall plugs and screws) to fix the bell push in place, and plug the flashing chime unit into a wall socket. The pager is battery operated and can be clipped to a belt or carried in a pocket. It will chime and flash a small red light, as well as vibrating when activated.

The chime unit has four volume levels (65-110dB) and 52 selectable melodies to choose from.

BT Big Button 200 telephone

This big button corded telephone has features to help those with dual sensory loss. In addition to large buttons with clear digits on them, it is hearing-aid compatible and has a volume boost button.

RNIB Liquid Level Indicator, audible and vibratory

The long prongs indicate when you should stop pouring in water, the shorter prongs let you know when to stop adding milk!
